What is a Superfood?

The term ‘Superfood’ is not an actual food group. It refers to a food, rich with vitamins and minerals, that help us ward off diseases and boosts our health in general.
The main substances contained in superfoods include:
Antioxidants - such as vitamin C. A substance needed to help build and repair the body’s tissues and boost immunity.
Healthy fats - such as omega 3. This is helpful in the fight against heart disease
Fibre - thought to prevent diabetes and digestive problems
Phytochemicals - the natural chemicals that give many plants their deep colours such as beetroot. (centre of excellence)
Fruit and Vegetables provide our body with important micronutrients
‘Micronutrients’ - a term used to describe vitamins and minerals, mainly found in nutrient rich foods such as fruits, veg, meat and dairy.
“Deficiencies in micronutrients can lead to reductions in energy levels, mental clarity and overall capacity. This can lead to reduced educational outcomes, reduced productivity and increased risk from other diseases and health conditions. Many of these deficiencies are preventable through nutrition and consumption of a healthy diet containing diverse foods, as well as food supplementation, where needed."
(World Health Organisation)
So, although fresh fruit and vegetables remain principal, it’s not such a bad idea to supplement a western diet as a means of squeezing in more nutrition.
A natural way of adding more vitamins and fibre.
Our superfood blends are a concentrated source of natural nutrients, from real fruit and vegetables, that can be easily absorbed by the body.
